A caption review checklist
Treat generated text as a first draft, not a transcript you can trust without listening.
Accuracy
Listen while reading. Check names, technical terms, numbers, negations, and speaker changes. A missing “not” can reverse the meaning of a sentence.
Timing and readability
Keep text synchronized with speech. Break lines at natural phrase boundaries, use legible contrast, and avoid placing captions over the speaker’s face or essential visual information.
Final review
Watch without sound to check comprehension, then with sound to check timing. Captions should convey what is actually said; do not quietly rewrite the speaker’s claim to make the clip more dramatic.
